After driving a 2008 GMC Sierra for the last 9 years I thought I would go check out the 2017 version. Not that there was anything wrong with my truck mind you. It’s been the best vehicle I’ve ever owned. Since I’ve had it I’ve never had to do anything other than get new tires, change the battery, and get regular oil changes. It still drives as well today as the day I bought it!
However, my son just graduated from high school, and would like his own vehicle. I thought it was time to hand my truck down and possible get a new one. What better truck to start looking at than one that has been so dependable?
I went to my local GMC dealership and test drove a SLT. At first glance there is just so much to take in compared to my 2008 model that you can’t possibly do it all at once. You need to take your time, and admire all the little details. The first thing you notice is the elegance of the cabin. From the comfort of the black dual heated seats; to the leather wrapped steering wheel with push button controls; to the dash which looks like it could substitute for a computer tablet, you could take hours exploring all the cool features!
Like all other GMC vehicle models coming out now it has the available 4G Wi-Fi hot spot, and available IntelliLink system with a full color 7” screen, a high quality, premium sound system, and a rear vision camera, but it also has a center console USB ports to charge your devices and allows you to sync your smart phone to the IntelliLink system to run your favorite aps off the 7” screen. In addition to all that it’s all voice & touch screen activated! You’ll feel like you are driving around in your home office linkied to your laptop, which if you work out of your truck you may very well be!
All that was really secondary though compared to how it drove. There was a very noticeable difference once I started driving it. With my 2008 model it takes approximately 20 seconds to pick up any speed from a stopped position. Compared to my ’08 model which has a Duramax 5.3L 6 cylinder engine, the 2017 edition has a 420- HP 6.2L V-8 engine that blasts off from the start. Moving out into traffic you don’t have to worry about picking up enough speed to avoid getting hit, you are off and away before anyone comes close to you! Once on the road, it was an extremely smooth drive all the way!
The roominess and comfort of the cab in the 2017 edition also exceeds anything my ’08 offers. There’s more leg room in both the front and the back seats, as well as adjustable seating in the front, and the aforementioned dual heated bucket seats, and dual air conditioning to keep both the driver and passengers comfortable to suit their individual needs is a great feature for those who can never agree on temperature!
All in all the 2017 GMC Sierra SLT is a vehicle hands down above the other trucks in its class for performance, comfort, and accessories! Go to your local GMC dealership today, and test drive one for yourself! You’ll see what I mean!
